3 Tips to Help you Complete the Bible in a Year

So, we're settling, gradually, into 2024, and of course, we're still in the season of goal-setting, vision-boarding and the works. One popular New Year's resolution is to try and complete reading the Bible during the course of the year, especially since, as Christians, we are called to read the Word daily and meditate on its teachings so that we can apply them to our daily lives. This is as the Bible is our guideline to righteous living. However, many often find it difficult to keep up with this goal as reading through the Bible somehow feels daunting for many of us.

The important thing to note before we jump into the points is that reading the Bible isn't just about checking out the words on the page. It's about reading to understand, reading to interpret and internalize, reading to equip yourself, and reading to understand more of God's heart for us. So, even as you work on pushing through to the end, leave room for Him to speak and inspire you to dwell a little longer on certain scriptures, where necessary.

Here are three tips that you can use to make sure that you reach your goal this year:

  • Set a reading schedule: Sometimes, the idea of doing this feels forced and ingenuine since we are told that it should be a 'natural' occurrence. But, think about what happens in life when you want new eating and fitness habits to become natural - you have to start with structure and routine. It's after you get your body and mind in the space to flow in the actions that it will then become natural.

  • Use a Bible App to keep you on track: Accountability, accountability, accountability. Not from a place of a drill sergeant, but more from a place of pushing you forward while reminding you of your progress, as well as the path ahead. This one is further enhanced when you explore with a specific group of people who also are using the same app and doing the same journey.

  • Read some extra chapters if you fall behind: Hold yourself to a standard and do your best to keep it. If you fall behind in your work, you're inclined to do what needs to be done to catch up, at least. So why is this any different?

We hope that your journey through the Bible the upcoming year is definitely fruitful and that you truly meet your goal.
