Foreign Joy

I've come to realize that its very common to believe that the unknown always presents the worst possible outcome.

Pastor Jerry Flowers once said "Don't let the fear of the unknown make you choose familiar misery rather than foreign joy."

Even when we're experiencing extremely awful situations and receiving less than acceptable treatment, we often prefer to hold onto the terrible situation that we 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐟 instead of giving it up for the possibility of something better coming our way.

I say we because just recently I found my actions aligning with this belief.

We supported a particular service provider for years then all of a sudden we started receiving less than acceptable service.

For months I stalled the process of changing service providers simply because I feared that the unknown (the new service provider) would be worse than our current one. I eventually gave in and opted to just try the new service provider, which to my amazement has been way better than the last.

It got me thinking, how long have we endured familiar misery and torment in every facet of our lives, whether its our relationships, businesses, schools, jobs, personal interests - simply because we've convinced ourselves that the unknown would somehow be worse?

𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧:

Hold onto the possibility of foreign joy.

What you don't know could actually be something beautiful.

Can you relate?

God may very well be nudging you to trust him in this season. You may not know what the future holds, but trust your future to a known God, a faithful God.

Just like the sisters in the GIF, who are experiencing incredible joy, your foreign joy could potentially be on the other side of a God ordained decision that you're afraid to make.

We really do need to let go of the fear of the unknown. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, yet unseen. Walking infaith will truly call us to experience foreign joy.
